Breakfast had a good mix of hot and cold dishes, and the coffee was nice. Reception were polite and helpful. Our room was clean and well equipped, and the bathroom was clean and well maintained.

We appreciated being allowed in before check-in, and the noon checkout was good too. It’s an affordable hotel, and we liked the displays and presentations. The breakfast buffet didn’t feel worth the price, so we’d go to the nearby Toby instead. The indoor bar and restaurant have always been closed when we’ve been there. There was no bathtub, and instead of a proper table there was only a small, wobbly thing. The TV should be centred in front of the bed rather than way over on the left.

We stayed five nights. The hotel was clean and the staff were great, but I wouldn’t book again. On the first morning there was no heating or hot water. Reception said the timer was out and would be fixed, and when we got back the heating and hot water were working again. The next night the fire alarm woke us at 3:30am. I can’t blame the hotel, but it wasn’t a pleasant experience and we were more tired the next day. Later, the cleaners had left our room door insecure. Nothing valuable was inside, but it’s worrying to think someone could have entered our private room. The toilet also needed several flushes to clear the paper. Reception couldn’t help because there was no maintenance staff on site over the weekend. We didn’t try breakfast, but I did have a drink at the bar and the lemonade was flat.

Whenever we visit family, we stay at the Ibis in Barnsley. Every visit has been lovely, with rooms that are clean and comfortable and fantastic amenities. The staff are always friendly, kind and helpful. We don’t even consider anywhere else now.
