The burgers are just as good as the pizzas here, with juicy patties, fresh toppings and soft toasted buns. The pizzas have crisp crusts, plenty of topping choices and loads of flavour, too. Crazy Kitchen is one of the best places in Barrow for either one, and it’s hard to stop at a single slice.

The staff were brilliant and I’d happily come back. The beds and pillows were just right, and the shower pressure was good, with the temperature easy to set hot or really cold. The ladies’ bathroom by the bar was clean, had paper towels, and looked great in the photos. Definitely Instagram-worthy.

What stood out most was how welcome everyone made us feel. The landlady was lovely, and the locals were friendly too. We stayed for a couple of nights; the rooms were basic but clean. There was a microwave and fridge on the landing for guests, and the food at the place was amazing.

The food at the Ambrise kitchen was delicious, and the portions are huge. Even some starters are big enough to be a main meal if you’ve got a good appetite. We weren’t keen on the breakfast sausage, though I don’t know what brand it was, and I’m not complaining. It was also very dog-friendly. The staff were all nice, everything worked well, and we could turn down the heating. I did worry about pub noise on the first night, which is to be expected, but it stopped at 11.45.

There’s a little play park across the road, and my daughter loved spending time there. She was also thrilled to see Barrow rugby pitch from our room and watch a training session in the morning. We stayed in a clean, comfortable quadruple room with one double and two single beds. It’s well placed for the town centre, Barrow retail park, dock museum and walney island, and there was a microwave on the middle landing that I think guests could use. Friendly, welcoming people, a fantastic price, and this will be our first choice on regular trips to Barrow.
