I took one look at the room and the smell, and walked straight back out without even untying my laces. The place was filthy and stank. A customer had booked a room for Daves Day, only to find it had been booked out at a higher price. Disgusting behaviour.

The property fell below basic standards. One room had no window, so I wouldn’t call it a bedroom, and there was a damp smell throughout. We had an infant with us and had to find somewhere else for the night. The owner refused a refund. We contacted booking.com and were told to delete our comment there, which we did as requested, but still received no refund. It feels like booking.com protects its business and ignores everyday customers’ complaints. Shame on you.

I’d booked this guest house last week for a longer work stay, but then my 87-year-old mother was taken to hospital and we’ve been told she may not make it through the weekend. I had to cancel the trip so I could be the sole carer for my disabled brother. When I contacted the guest house, the man told me, extremely rudely, that he never gives refunds. I was stunned by how cold he was. He didn’t answer my calls, so I messaged to explain. He called back, called me absurd names and raised his voice, then my wife took the phone and hung up. He offered to let me use the booking this year or next, but I was only going for work. I should never have paid the full week’s lodging upfront, just a deposit, and then I wouldn’t have lost the money. Lesson learned. Avoid at all costs. Rude man!
