Francis Hotel Bath

The staff deserve a special mention. Everyone we spoke with was professional and courteous, and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We were celebrating my wife’s 60th birthday, and after she told them, we found bubbly and chocolates waiting in the room. A thoughtful surprise. The beds were extremely comfortable, the rooms and especially the bathrooms well furnished, and even the media selection was easy to use and had plenty of choice. Breakfast at the restaurant was excellent, with lots to choose from. We didn’t try the evening menu this time, but will on our next visit. We had a wonderful couple of nights at the Francis, from check-in to check-out, and will happily recommend it and return.

The public areas were immaculate, and the reception, bar and restaurant teams were all great. Our room was very nice, if a little small. We didn’t dine there, but breakfast was excellent, even if it took about 15 minutes to poach two eggs. One thing bothered us: at checkout we were told there was a “discretionary” service charge due, despite having paid for the room in advance. Neither my wife, who works in business travel and travels extensively, nor I had encountered this before. We politely declined.

The staff made the stay enjoyable, and the welcome was lovely. They took the time to explain where to find the room and breakfast, which was helpful. We got a cosy family room at the last minute because we needed a king bed. It felt like a mini suite, with lots of space and tasteful decor, plus complimentary toiletries and drinks. The hotel has recently been refurbished, so everything looked fresh. Despite being on a busy road, it was very calm inside. We only had breakfast here because we’d booked our favourite restaurants elsewhere, though the restaurant was popular that weekend. We’ve visited Bath plenty of times and will come back here again, and try the restaurant next time.

The staff were the best part of our stay, well trained and very attentive. Breakfast was lovely and the bar food was excellent. Our room was clean, nicely presented, and everything worked as it should. Tea, coffee and the rest were good quality and regularly replenished. A wonderful stay in early February 2026. Well done to everyone who runs and manages the hotel.
