Radstock

The other two rooms were just okay, and it looked as though they’d recently had a lick of paint. Shame they’d painted straight over the old wallpaper and border. When we arrived, our three rooms had mistakenly been given to someone else. We were asked to wait in the restaurant while the other guests were moved out and all the linen was replaced. They gave us each a complimentary drink, which was nice. Unfortunately, our room was very dated. The sofa and carpet were filthy with ground-in dirt, and there was about a centimetre of old dust on the light fittings and four-poster bed. The shower was covered in mould, though the bed was clean.

I won’t stay here again when I’m in the area. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable, and I had back pain through the night. It wasn’t a pleasant stay. Room 5 was run down and outdated, and far too hot. The radiator beside the bed was off, but the tiny one in the toilet was on full blast, with no way to turn it down. It made the room feel like a sauna, and because it was right by the toilet, I burned my leg whenever I sat down. I reported it twice to staff behind the bar. They did nothing, just said, “when its cold at 3am you will be glad its on.” I tried opening the window for air, but there wasn’t enough of a breeze. It just made the room noisy because it faced the main road.

I had a large room with a huge window facing the main road. I was worried about the noise at first, but it went quiet after about 9:30, and I slept really well with the curtains closed and window open. The shower was spacious and powerful, just right. I also had breakfast and Sunday dinner at the attached restaurant, @TheMinersRest, and thoroughly enjoyed both meals. #samantha the chef was lovely. Martin, the sassy manager, was good fun and enjoyed a bit of banter. All the staff were extremely friendly, saying hello and chatting for a few minutes. It’s a #SconeAsInGone establishment. The old building is undergoing renovations and has plenty of potential. It’s a good option if you don’t want to pay Bath’s higher prices, and it’s 16 minutes from the Avon Parking Lot in Bath. I also visited the museum across the road, which opens after 2:00. Well worth a visit. Thanks for a great stay!

I stopped in for breakfast. My wife’s omelette came out burnt, but they replaced it quickly and everything was fine. Nicely done-out place.
