The Gables

We found the train into Edinburgh straightforward, though getting to the local station took us a good 20-25 minutes on foot. We weren’t sure whether its parking was free, and there were no clear signs, but that was an issue with the station rather than the hotel. We’d have liked more help with transport and local information. The bus seemed like an option, but we couldn’t find out whether it took cash or card. Uber was practically unavailable, and we didn’t know which local taxi service to look up or whether a firm we found would cover the area. We managed, but I can imagine other visitors finding it difficult too. Our stay was short because we had to leave early and couldn’t have much breakfast. The host was kind about it and gave us fruit for the journey. The room was basic but comfortable, clean and tidy, with the usual tea and coffee. We were lucky with the weather, though the room got quite hot. There’s no AC, which is normal in the UK, so that’s more of a general gripe than a complaint about this hotel.

The breakfast was amazing, and the bed was very comfortable. The rooms were spotless and had all the basics. It was absolutely great value for money, and Mary should be proud of her B&B. Top marks. Edinburgh Airport is only 20 minutes away, which was a bonus.

Mary made me feel very welcome at The Gables. My room was lovely, had everything I needed, and was extremely clean. I stayed from Saturday 21.10.17 to Tuesday 24.10.17, and I’d definitely recommend the place. I’ll stay there again next time I’m up.

Breakfast had a good choice, and we had a lovely two-night stay with my husband and children. The room was clean too. We’ll definitely book here again.
