I stopped in at 1pm on a cold Saturday in January. There were around a dozen people inside, some locals and some staying upstairs, and the place felt relaxed. The woman working was a real diamond, friendly and courteous, and she took a moment to chat about the pub. The beer choice was solid, from familiar options to local brews, with two cask ales. I went for a Pravha and really enjoyed it, though it was about 10% pricier than usual. The menu is comfort food, including burgers with names like Cheesus Christ and The Juicy Bastard. The Crown sits at Battersea's southern end, with Clapham Junction the closest station. It dates from the 1870s, when it was called The Crown Hotel, and was once a Truman’s pub. Some of its trademark tiling remains around the lower exterior. These days @wearepublove runs it, and there’s a hostel on the upper floors. Inside, it’s a roomy single-bar pub. The counter is to the left as you enter, with an open kitchen beside it. There’s lots of seating, a pool table near the front and a tucked-away raised area at the back. Outside, a partly covered paved space looks out onto Lavender Hill. The decor feels modern, with exposed brick, panelled walls, colourful prints, mixed tables and chairs, and a boarded floor. I especially liked the original leaded windows with their heraldic coats of arms. The modern style isn't quite my thing, but the Victorian architecture and old tiles are lovely. My pint was spot on, and the hospitality was first class. Well worth a look. 📅 10th January 2026

The rooms felt very cramped, and the bottom bunk was hard to use because it was practically on the floor. Still, everything was clean and tidy, the staff were friendly, and there are useful amenities nearby. It’s an affordable place to stay, with a nice pub downstairs. Minus one point.

The neighbourhood is great, with a large supermarket about five minutes away. It’s a bit far from the Underground, but there are several buses and a train station close by. My bed was clean and comfortable, and each bed has a locker. The bathrooms were clean and the shower had warm water. The rooms get very warm and have poor ventilation, almost unbearable in summer. I also found dust, plus stains on the walls and ceilings. It’s a cheap, convenient place for a few nights, and it was warm and comfortable. The facilities are old and not very well maintained, though they do work. The pub food is classic and tasty. Staff were helpful, but not especially welcoming.

Pool is a fun way to finish up and help with digestion, and a beer rounds out the visit. The Parmesan fries add to the fun, too. I keep coming back to the chicken burger. I expected an ordinary one the first time, but it turned out delicious. The vibe is great, and the staff are really sweet. At first I thought those constant smiles were put on, but now I see they’re just like that. This is easily my favourite place of its kind, from someone who’s been a casual pub-goer for just under two decades.

There are several bus lines on the road, and the train station for Gatwick Airport is very close. The beds were clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms were clean with hot water. It's a cheap, convenient place for a few nights, and it was warm and comfortable.
