Waveney House Hotel

I'm a really fussy eater, and lunch here today worked for me on every count. Nice setting, lovely food, and staff who were genuinely helpful. A good place to stop for lunch, and one I'd recommend.

We were lucky enough to get a table by the window, looking out over the river, when we ate here on a Monday in April. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the youngest chef prepared excellent food.

I had a great experience renting a room here. Staff checked in every now and then to make sure the food and drinks were stocked, which felt about right, and they left me in peace the rest of the time. I'd happily recommend them.

The hotel's location is great, and it looked like a lovely place for a wedding reception. I was there for a wedding and booked one night through a third-party site about a week ahead. I think I got the last vacant room, number 10, up in the attic. At over six feet tall, I struggled with the low ceiling in places, especially in the bathroom. There was no shower, and I wasn't going to try squeezing into the bath. The room was very warm, partly because the bathroom radiator gurgled all night even with its valve set to zero. I also found rust deposits in the kettle when I went to make tea in the morning, so I didn't use it. I don't eat meat or dairy, and the cooked breakfast was a bit underwhelming, though I've come to expect that in a lot of places. Would I stay again? Probably, but I'd do more research and plan ahead.
