The hill to the house is quite a climb, so a car is useful, especially if, like us, you’re getting older and rely on buses. We stayed at 'Shenstone' for two weeks as a family and found it very comfortable. The bedrooms look out across the Channel, and there’s a nice garden patio to sit in.

There’s a good mix of shops, including a lovely sweet shop, and a large car park. Social distancing, though, had gone out the window.

A great stay, though the road was busy by Isle of Wight standards.

It’s a lovely old house, and the owners were polite and very helpful.

The service was lovely and the food was good quality.
