The Living Well spa was busy around the pool, which I noticed after lunch. The voucher covered lunch and two half-hour treatments. I chose the pâté and fish and chips, and both were delicious, though the deal’s menu felt a little limited. Dessert, sides and drinks were available to buy separately. Lucy was lovely as my server, and everyone was attentive. Georgia then looked after me for a back massage and an express facial. She was friendly and professional.

Annemarie made the day for us. She was so attentive and lovely, and nothing felt like too much trouble. I hope I run into someone like her at every restaurant and hotel I visit. We’ll definitely come back soon. The four of us were there for a spa day with vouchers for two treatments and access to the pool, jacuzzi and steam rooms. The pool and spa were a comfortable temperature, and the pool was large enough for a proper swim. It isn’t fancy, but it’s exactly the kind of pool I like. The treatment area had a more luxurious feel, with fruit bowls and a fountain of cold water. My back, neck and shoulder treatment, plus the hand treatment, was fabulous. We finished with a lovely two-course lunch in the restaurant, then paid for pudding later in the day. Thanks for making it such a special day.

Gwen at reception was especially kind. As I was travelling alone, she made me feel welcome and showed me around the amenities, with tips on what to enjoy during my stay. My room was a good size, as was the attached bathroom, and the spa had a good-sized pool, jacuzzis, saunas and steam rooms. I also had a delicious meal in the restaurant. The hotel was spotless and comfortable, and the staff were very helpful.

The best part of our stay was the £30 three-course Valentine’s dinner, which felt well worth the price. The bar and waiting staff also went out of their way to serve us in the non-restaurant area so we could watch the rugby while eating. Breakfast was decent and solid, if nothing special. We stayed over Valentine’s weekend and really enjoyed the couple of nights. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and housekeeping brought firmer pillows when we asked. Wi-Fi was excellent in the room and around the hotel. The TV was only standard Freeview, though, and screen casting kept buffering when we tried it. The leisure complex felt a bit tired and could use a spruce-up, but it was still perfectly serviceable. We thought the stay was good value for what we paid.
