I had to phone before they sent an email with the codes for both the main entrance and my room. Getting in felt like trying to crack Fort Knox, and that might have been easier. The room and bathroom looked clean enough, apart from some wallpaper that had been stripped back for remedial work.

There was room to spread out, and I could cook and store food there. They’d provided towels, but sadly no toilet paper.

At this price, the state of the room was unacceptable. There were stains on the sheets, marks all over the walls, and dust that looked untouched for weeks. Old, broken kitchen cabinets were being used as dressers, the bed was broken, and the bathroom handle came off in my hand. I’d only just checked in. It also looked like staff were living on site in a caravan.

There’s no receptionist or breakfast, and no other services to speak of. Still, the bed was comfortable and the place was clean. Fine for a basic night’s stay, with a handy location for getting around Berwick.

We keep coming back to the Berwick Hotel, and the private parking is a real help. It was reassuring to have the car secure and easy to get to. The staff were quick to answer questions and sort out requests, and even gave us a 10% discount coupon for our next stay. A thoughtful touch, and I’m looking forward to using it. Our latest room was spotless and nicely put together, with good amenities and a particularly cozy bed. The hotel continues to exceed my expectations. It’s a pleasure to stay here, and I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for an enjoyable hotel stay.
