The evening meal and the service really stood out, and breakfast was ordered ahead and didn’t disappoint. Our room was a small double with a soft mattress that could probably do with an upgrade. The shower and soaps were nice. I’d stay again, though there are a few areas that could be improved.

The Crown Hotel seemed like the nearest place to take our Canadian friends for dinner, and it turned out to be a good choice. It was busy, but we were seated quickly and got menus straight away. Drinks came in reasonable time, just as we were ready to order. The staff were very polite and efficient despite being rushed off their feet. We all enjoyed the excellent food and pleasant atmosphere, and thought the staff were brilliant. I’d recommend it wholeheartedly.

The food was good and reasonably priced when I stopped in for a meal last Saturday. A young woman with black hair was managing both the restaurant and bar by herself and did a great job. I’d come back next time I’m over.

There’s plenty of parking nearby, and the pub-style menu is straightforward and reasonably priced. We ate here in June and liked the nicely decorated, spacious bar-restaurant room. The music stayed at a comfortable volume and the service was friendly, though we did wait a while before anyone came over. My partner chose two starters: both the duck pate, served with plenty of oat cakes, and the home-style chicken and rice soup were enjoyable. I had the steak and ale pie with a glass of Erdinger Alkoholfrei, and it was very good. The mushy tinned or possibly frozen carrots were a letdown, though. I also had to mention that the inside of the water carafe was dirty. We’d visit again.

Locals seem to think highly of this hotel. I took my elderly mum there for the Easter Sunday carvery, and every item of food was cooked perfectly. Mum’s a vegetarian and loved the sweet potato tart. We enjoyed the desserts too.
