We chose Glan Aber hotel for a one-night stay because, after a long walk in beautiful Betws-y-Coed, we wanted to relax in a pool or spa. The hotel’s advertised private facilities, including a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi, sounded ideal. We drove 95 miles for them, but none of them worked. During our one-hour slot we spent the first ten minutes trying buttons that wouldn’t switch on the jacuzzi or steam room. A staff member then came in and tried to figure it out with us for another ten minutes. In the end, they said it might work after a while, told us to try again later, and said they’d contact their boss. That was all. The room was okay for a three-star hotel, and breakfast came quickly and was okay too. But our stay didn’t match what had been advertised. We wish we’d gone to the lakes instead, which had been our second option. At checkout I explained our disappointment to a gentleman at reception. His response was that these things happen, things break and they can’t do anything about it, followed by, “I hope you had a great stay overall.” I felt dismissed and completely ignored. It wasn’t good enough. We were disappointed and definitely wouldn’t return. The hotel should say on its website that the spa facilities sometimes break and they can’t do anything about it.

The location was wonderful, with an open log fire and a great cooked breakfast plus plenty of choice. Staff were really friendly and welcoming, and our room was clean, with white bedding and towels. There was no bath. It’s an old hotel, so expect creaky floors and thin walls. Good value, and I’d definitely stay again.

We came back for a cheeky weekend away after staying here before. Betws-y-Coed is stunning, and the hotel is right in the centre. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. It’s dog friendly too, so your furry friend can come along. You can’t go wrong.

The building is older, with older furniture and infrastructure, and no AC. Still, we really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were nice and clean, the staff were great and breakfast was really tasty. It’s a small town, but buses run through regularly. I’ve recommended the place to others.

A last-minute gem for a solo travelling lass. The rooms are hotel or hostel style and very fairly priced. Call the hotel to book directly, so booking sites don’t take a cut, for the same price. Lisa was a gracious host. There’s a peaceful garden with fairy lights, a bar and restaurant, and about 10 parking spaces. There’s also a road round the back by the church. It’s a perfect spot to explore from or just relax. And the spa room! Book a private hour in the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi when you book your stay, only £5pp. Choose this hotel, you won’t be disappointed.
