A gorgeous pub, full of character and history. The food was excellent, especially my incredible chocolate parfait dessert. Parking was easy, there's outdoor seating, and it's dog friendly too. Brilliant.

On our drive back from Cornwall, we stopped with friends and both dogs for breakfast to shake off the post-holiday blues. Such a good call 🐶🐶☕️ The breakfast was enormous, good quality, and had no skimping or fuss. It was the sort of plate that makes you wonder if lunch is needed. Even better, it was £10 a head, with a decent latte included. In 2025! Somewhere, a brunch menu just fainted. The atmosphere was friendly, the dogs were welcome, and we left full and caffeinated. If you're heading north and need a proper feed, this is the place. That venison burger was amazing, and the chips, coleslaw, and side salad were all delicious. My husband had the vegan curry and liked it, though I don't think it impressed him as much as my burger did. We came for lunch during half-term. The service was okay, but the table was very sticky and the decor dated. Five stars for the burger, three for the decor and sticky table.

The bar had a lovely mix of locals and guests, and James and his team were so friendly and helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble. We had a lovely room, excellent pub food, and really fresh breakfasts. A perfect break. We'll be back soon.
