We liked the quieter streets around Frederick Street Townhouse in the Jewellery Quarter, while still being only a short walk from the city centre. Staff handle check-in and questions from the bar next door, and they were friendly and helpful. You get a key for the Townhouse front door, so you can come and go as you please. The Button Factory bar attached to it is also worth a visit for food or drinks. The rooms are nicely decorated, though we had a couple of issues. Our curtains didn't cover the edges or middle of the windows, so light came in. The old building comes with a warning about outside noise, but we barely noticed any. There was, however, a sizeable gap under our door, and we could hear people coming and going in the hallway, which interrupted our sleep in the mornings. That could be improved.

We had a lovely night here. The furnishings were good quality, the room had decent amenities and there are several car parks nearby. A good value option for a quick stay in Birmingham.

The staff were very friendly, but our stay in room No 16 was disappointing for something described as 'Deluxe'. It was cold when we arrived because the radiator wasn't working, though staff fixed that promptly. The room felt dim and dingy, the curtain linings were torn, and there were teabags out of their packets and dirty drink marks on the desk.

Breakfast was the biggest letdown. We came down just after 9 a.m. and there was hardly anything left. The choices at The Premier Inn are better! The room itself was spacious, with a comfortable bed and a great night's sleep. Check-in was easy and the staff seemed helpful enough. But when we asked for extra milk, we were told some would be put in the fridge. We asked twice and still got none.

The rooms are lovely, the location is decent, and the staff are nice. The pub has great orange wine, too. But the noise made our weekend stay very hard to live with. There's loud music on both sides of the building until late, and moving to the back only helped a bit because a band was playing in the beer garden. The front room was genuinely unliveable. You'd need to be out from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. unless you want to feel like you're inside a speaker system, with lads holding pints staring through the windows. The curtains have seen better days as well. I can't say what it's like on a weeknight. Breakfast was great on the first day but had run out by the second. I suspect they buy it in on Saturday and expect it to last, which is bizarre. If you're deaf or only plan to be in the room long enough to change clothes, I can recommend it.
