The Cube Hotel Birmingham

The balcony was spacious and had a great city view. The room itself was large, with windows on two sides, but the bathroom needs regrouting and tidying up. The bed was very bouncy, and the double quilt was inside a king-size cover on a queen-size bed. There were only a few te etc, and when I asked for more I had to wait for housekeeping to come on shift. I'm disabled and spend a lot of time in my room, so I tend to drink a lot. The TV volume was restricted and so low we could barely hear it. Reception said she'd send maintenance, though she didn't think he could do anything.

Reception, restaurant and bar staff were lovely, and the receptionist knew about the problems and complaints. She had no control over the people at the top who won't spend the money to fix things. The location is great, probably why people still book it, but we won't return. We used to stay here for Birmingham trips back in the Hotel Indigo days, and it's gone downhill badly. There was dried vomit on the floor as soon as we entered. The old spring mattress had no support in the middle and left us with poor back support overnight. There was no hot water, so the taps and shower were cold. We were told there might be bar noise until 1am from the 25th floor, while we were on the 24th, but it went on all night, like the royal rumble upstairs. The lifts and doors weren't working properly. I don't usually leave reviews, but this place has really fallen from grace.

The views were the best part, since all the rooms are on the 23rd and 24th floors. Staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was okay, but one morning I arrived later and all the pastries were gone with none brought out to replace them. The room sometimes smelled like cabbage. I had to call reception several times for missing things, including the TV remote and a heater. The hot water didn't work properly, and I had to take a cold shower on the day I left. The staff can't make up for the hotel's poor quality. It wasn't worth the price, and I wouldn't stay again.

The hotel looks modern, but the equipment is out of date. The TV only had YouTube, which was a pain to use, and reception simply said they weren't sure when I asked about it. I couldn't connect HDMI either. The room was cold, with only a small portable heater. The water took a while to warm up, and the sheets were too small for the mattress while the duvet cover was too big for the duvet. The lack of upkeep and maintenance really lets this 'Luxury hotel' down.
