Boscombe Spa Hotel

The room was a bit dated, but the bed was comfortable and there was plenty of tea and coffee. The shower could've been warmer. Reception was friendly, and breakfast was acceptable, though it could be much better with fried mushrooms and better-quality sausages. It suited what I needed, which was somewhere to stay while dropping my daughter at uni.

Raj was such a warm and attentive host that his kindness lifted the stay, and the hotel was undeniably clean. The common areas had a persistent curry smell, not unpleasant, just oddly everywhere. The rooms didn't have that smell, but my room had its own style issues. Old, dark pine furniture could've looked lovely sanded and whitewashed for a seaside feel. Instead there was a very bright green accent wall, painted messily enough that green had spread onto the adjoining white surfaces. The strangest renovation choice was in the en-suite. Rather than properly blocking an old bathroom doorway, someone locked it, took off the handle, and fixed the sink to the door. It's a clever use of space in theory, but the setup made washing my hands feel like part of a DIY art project. I found myself wondering if the same person was responsible for maintenance and decorating. Three and a half stars from me. Raj's hospitality and the cleanliness made up for a lot of the odd renovation decisions. A kind host can make even a sink attached to a door feel charming.

The owner was kind and helpful, and we felt welcome right away. Our room was clean, cosy, and had what we needed, plus a very comfortable bed. Really good value. Thanks so much 😊
