We had Sunday roast at a busy restaurant, so booking ahead is a good idea. The staff were quick and attentive. My husband had the lamb shank and I had the vegetarian Wellington, and we shared a bottle of wine. The food was tasty and good value at under £60. The restaurant looks run down from outside, but is nicer inside. My Wellington pastry was overcooked, though I was only eating the inside because I’m dieting, so it was fine. Would recommend.

We came for Sunday lunch at this pleasant place on cliff road, which has plenty of seating inside and out. The staff were friendly, but the roast beef was tough. There were lots of empty tables marked as reserved; we stayed about an hour and a half and most of them remained empty. The menu used to be large and varied, but has shrunk considerably. Food quality was OK, though it’s gone down compared with years ago.

My son and I both had the turkey and beef Sunday roast, and the meat was lovely and tender. The horseradish had a real kick, and they also brought cranberry sauce and a big jug of gravy. The vegetables were generous: plenty of broccoli, chunky carrots, lovely parsnips and lots of peas, plus cauliflower cheese. Every table was booked, yet our lunch arrived very quickly. The staff were very nice.

We got bar snacks for the table while playing card bingo, and they were delicious. We’ll definitely order them regularly when we play. There’s also a deal for two meals and two drinks for £20, which is amazing value.

We hadn’t planned to eat, but our visit turned into a meal after I spotted a free drink gift in the app and ordered through it. The drinks came with a smile, and the pub was buzzing with people enjoying Sunday lunch. We ordered food after that. My husband had sausage and mash, and I had the Hunters Chicken. They quoted a 30 minute wait, but it arrived in 20, hot and perfectly cooked. We really enjoyed the visit. Great food and great staff working tirelessly to give good service.
