Brae Hotel

The cooked breakfast was a highlight each morning, though hopefully the hash brown shortage sorts itself out soon! I was there for six nights on a recent work trip. The staff were great, and my room was comfortable and tidy.

The food was tasty and came out quickly, even though the menu was pretty standard. Service was good too, and the breakfast crew were excellent and very efficient, with good hot breakfasts. I found the value was there in the food and service. Our superior double was a letdown, with a very cheap mattress and dated decor and style. I wouldn't offer a bed like that to my own guests. I understand that finding good value on Shetland is hard, and accept that. The Brae seems to be one of the island's larger hotels and clearly caters to bigger groups. There aren't many choices, but the service is kind and pleasant. It's fine as a base for exploring the north of the island.

Our room was comfortable, clean and quiet, and everyone staying there seemed friendly. We had a lovely couple on our first night share great advice about places to visit, and later met a very nice dad and son who passed along some tips too. The breakfast was delicious, and Curtis and Scott made us feel so welcome each morning. Their friendly manner and suggestions for places to see were something we looked forward to. We enjoyed the evening meals as well, and Calum looked after us very well. All the staff were so friendly. We really enjoyed our stay at the Brae hotel.

Scott and Curtis made breakfast a real highlight, with fresh coffee, a good continental selection and a cooked breakfast made with fresh, local ingredients. They were attentive and welcoming, and the great music and atmosphere made mornings especially nice. Thanks for opening early so we could grab a quick bite before our early flight. I definitely recommend it. We spent a week at the Brae hotel on a research trip. The reception staff were helpful and professional during check-in, and our room was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. The location near to the Eshaness was great. The stay was excellent.
