The Garden Cafe is downstairs and serves some of the best vegetarian and vegan food in Brighton, even for someone like me who isn’t vegetarian. The rooms are nicely decorated, with good amenities, and the city’s attractions are easy to reach. I’d be very likely to stay again, especially during the season. My top floor room stayed cool during a record-breaking hot weekend thanks to the excellent air conditioning and a fan. The bed and pillows were firm but fine, with a good-sized bed and plenty of pillows. Just be aware that the bathrooms are small, and the showers might be a challenge for larger guests.

Overlooking the laines at night was such a treat. The rooms are simple, clean and well equipped, and both the guesthouse and the attached Garden cafe are decorated with lots of care. I definitely want to come back for the cakes! We felt welcome from check-in, and the guesthouse is brilliantly located right in the laines. Thanks for a lovely stay. We’ll absolutely be back.

The staff were lovely, but this was possibly the worst night I’ve ever had in a room. I was shivering in bed because it was freezing. There was rusty water dripping into the sink, cobwebs on the way up the stairs, and dirty water from the radiator ended up on the floor. They tried to fix the radiator, but it still didn’t work. All round, the worst room experience I’ve had to date.

We popped in for coffee and pastries during a day out in Brighton. The service was lovely, and the garden and Turkish-lamp-themed decor made for a delightful setting. The coffee and pastries were fresh and delicious. We didn’t try the sandwiches, but they looked amazing.

We stayed in this same room a couple of years ago, when it was small and simple, a little rough around the edges, but fine for our needs near Brighton Centre. It didn’t seem much had changed. This time the curtains had come off the track and wouldn’t close properly, so light came in very early. A towel swan and petals had been left for Valentine’s Day, which was a nice touch. But the stairs, hallway and room all smelled of cigarettes. It wasn’t as bad in the room, though I could smell that horrible stale-cigarette stench at night when I turned toward the edge of the bed. Even our clothes from the bed smelled of cigarettes when we got home. We don’t smoke, and it was awful. I don’t think I’ll stay here again.
