There’s no TV, iron, hangers, or much of anything else, but hey, it’s cheap, so perhaps that’s what drew you in. Once you enter your so-called “apartment,” the smell of sweat, grime and unwashed bodies may bring back school changing rooms in all the wrong ways. The room feels like an authentic prison cell, as if you’d booked a night as a convict. Expect a fold-up camp bed, stained carpets, peeling paint and a filthy bathroom. Smells included.

The security, kitchen and location were good, and the sleeping area was fine. The bathroom was less pleasant but usable. What really disappointed me was the price for a two-day weekend. An earlier booking had been more manageable, but circumstances meant I had to pay it. I was told Booking.com set the prices, but clearly someone is making a lot at other people’s expense. One star because of the cost, which felt out of place for student accommodation.

The bedroom has one very bright blue wall, which feels a bit intimidating. Otherwise, these are nice halls of residence, with an en-suite bathroom and shared kitchen.

We went as a group and had the whole floor, so the kitchen was ours to use for drinks before and after going out. The rooms were clean and spacious, and it’s a great cheap place to stay in Brighton.
