Channings Hotel

Dan and the whole team couldn't do enough for us when I stayed here with friends after a night out in Bristol. We had drinks in the bar, then an excellent breakfast the next morning. The beds were comfortable, and the location worked perfectly for us.

The stay itself was okay, at least there was a roof over my head for the night. But the bed was uncomfortable, I could hear the guy snoring next door as if he were in my room, and staff asking whether my name was real felt rather personal. The place is shabby and could do with serious touching up. I won't stay here if I'm in Bristol again. They also refuse to send lost property back even when I'm arranging and paying for collection, saying I have to collect it in person. You know why people stay in hotels, right?

A quirky place, but nice, and the food was good. We had a big double room for three people. Check their signs carefully, though. Spirits are advertised as £2 for a double, but apparently that's if you buy a mixer, even with malt whisky. And the 20% off offer during freshers fortnight wasn't for oldies like us.

Everyone on staff is so lovely, polite, and kind, and they do everything they can to make you feel welcome. I've been here a few times, and Taylor has been amazing each time. She makes sure I'm comfortable and have a drink, and I never have to wait long for service. She's on hand whenever I have questions, and she's one of the best bartenders here. x
