Reception staff are lovely and welcoming, and the rooms are clean, though a bit tired in places. Breakfast was the big letdown. It’s advertised as unlimited, but there never seemed to be enough food ready for everyone. You might find just one sausage and one dry piece of bacon, if you’re lucky, while the rest is still cooking in the oven. The chef could see this was a problem and started telling staff to take orders, but they didn’t bring the food over or set it aside. The cook just refilled the buffet, where other guests understandably went to get another serving. I placed my order with the cook, then heard her tell the staff I hadn’t ordered anything. It felt like I was being called a liar. I waited with a coffee while the food cooked, but each time the counter was topped up, other people took food too. I’ve never experienced anything like it. It was a complete joke, and I left to eat elsewhere, which cost me more money. If you’re offering unlimited breakfast, have enough cooks and food ready, and a buffet counter that can serve everyone without running short. Others felt short-changed and disappointed too. Major improvements are needed, especially with the cook. There are cheaper hotels nearby that offer more for your money.

The staff are superb and made us feel welcome. It’s a pretty typical Premier Inn with decent-sized rooms. Whitbread sold the pub next door, so a few former bedrooms have been turned into a rather small breakfast area. We followed the advice to go at a quieter time, around 9am, and there was enough food. The location suited us, though getting here from the M4 is a little awkward since it’s not close to either exit.

Breakfast had a substantial selection, nicely presented and varied, and the staff on duty handled it very professionally. Reception staff were polite, and checking in was quick and easy. The car park was empty when we arrived but soon filled up, and the spaces are too narrow for modern cars. The Wi-Fi was a bit patchy.

Check-in was quick and easy, and the friendly staff let us choose our floor and whether we wanted a bath or shower. The location worked well for my stay, and breakfast was really nice too. The room was clean and tidy, though a little tired. Well done, Premier Inn team.

We’ve stayed at more than 20 Premier Inns over the past three years while house hunting, so we know the cleanliness and standards we expect from the brand. This branch fell short. I’ve included photos of the bathroom, which could be put right with proper cleaning fluid and a toothbrush. It’s frustrating too to have to ask for a second towel when we’d booked for two guests.
