Cave Castle & Country Club

The food was amazing, and the staff were so thoughtful about my daughter's 21st birthday. They wished her a happy birthday and brought her dessert on a plate with the message written in chocolate. She's gluten free, and they explained what she could order as listed or have adapted. The spa and health club were great, too. We stayed in a clean family room with disability access and an accessible bathroom. The beds were very comfortable. It's such a peaceful, picturesque place, and the old building has loads of character and charm. Staff were friendly and very helpful.

The spa package gave us access to the jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, pool, and upstairs gym. We also had a 50-minute treatment, and the lovely therapists took care to help us feel at ease. We felt amazing afterwards. Dinner was delicious, with good portions and a relaxed atmosphere, and breakfast was one of the best I've ever had. There was a great choice from continental to full English, with gluten-free options too. My husband arranged this surprise trip after a difficult year, and wow, what an amazing place. The hotel is quirky, the rooms are big with plenty of storage, and the beds are very comfortable. Every staff member was friendly and helpful. We couldn't fault the hotel and would definitely recommend it. We'd stay again without a doubt.

The pool and sauna were very good, and dinner was excellent. Breakfast was good too, though you have to toast your own bread in one of those conveyor machines. One pass gives you barely warm bread, the next turns it to charcoal. I'd rather have toast brought from the kitchen properly done. The rooms are comfortable, spacious, and good overall, but the plumbing is a little quirky. The shower had just enough power, and it was hard to get the temperature right. Neither washbasin tap was marked hot or cold, so I had to experiment. In the UK the cold tap is conventionally on the right when facing the basin, but in room 42 it isn't. Parking was good, the grounds are nice, and the location is pleasant and easy to reach from the motorway. Staff were excellent.

We had an excellent meal in the Windsor restaurant, served by two very pleasant, friendly young waitresses. Nothing was too much trouble, and they did everything with a smile. When we found a problem with the radiator in our room, someone came up within five minutes of us telling reception and fixed it quickly and professionally, without fuss or mess. Understandable in a building of that age and size. It's a lovely place to stay. The beautiful building has been tastefully decorated to keep the character of a castle over 300 years old, without a modern makeover spoiling it. Accommodation and food are very reasonably priced for the quality, and the bar prices aren't a rip-off either.
