The food is the main draw, and I’d be happy to recommend it and come back. We had lovely food and good service. We’d booked for 12:30pm and were lucky to arrive just before it got busier. I can understand why some people say service is slow: I saw several customers come over from the bar asking if anyone was going to take their order. It seems there aren’t enough staff for the size of the place.

Visited August 2025. I moved farther south years ago, so it was a pleasant surprise to find the pub and restaurant still well looked after. They’ve kept their old-world charm while making it comfortable. The food was nicely prepared and presented, and the service was excellent. Very nice.

I’m glad I gave this place another try after some time away. I’d stopped coming because I’d got bored with the menu, and the food used to be good but not exciting. This time, the starters were outstanding. I had the Sambas pil pil, and the roast venison was beautifully cooked and presented. The desserts still didn’t tempt me much, so I went for the cheese slate, while my partner loved the brullee. I don’t know whether the chef has changed, but the food is back to its best. A wonderful meal and a very pleasant surprise.

The Sunday dinner was delicious, though the service was slower than we’d like for what the meal costs. The bar area has a lot more atmosphere than the restaurant itself. I’d recommend the Sunday roast or the surf and turf loaded fries.

The place was busy, but the service was good. All four of us really enjoyed lunch, and the roast lamb Sunday lunch was the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommended.
