The staff made this stay for us. Everyone from check-in through checkout was friendly, attentive and helpful, and the hot tub was a lovely way to unwind after travelling. We had a clean room and a really comfortable bed, though the decor felt a bit dated. As vegans, we were well looked after. The woman at the bar wrote down the options for us and checked with the chef about what could be made specially, which made dinner easy. The soup and bruschetta were delicious, but the risotto, one of the main vegan choices, wasn’t enjoyable. Breakfast had a good vegan selection, and oat milk was brought over straight away. We had a one-night all-inclusive stay at Higher Trapp Hotel in Ribble Valley, with drinks, dinner and breakfast included. Despite the dated room and disappointing risotto, we had a great time and would recommend it for the service and vegan options.

Dinner was fabulous, especially the steak, and breakfast had plenty to choose from. A little more for dietary needs, perhaps fresh fruit or gluten-free choices, would be welcome. I enjoyed the gin, though my partner wasn’t keen on the lager selection, so next time I’d probably pay extra for premium drinks. We had a lovely two-night break and enjoyed the nearby places to walk and explore. Clitheroe is a pretty town with nice shops, pubs and cafes. The rooms could do with updating, and the bathrooms need new shower heads, but that didn’t spoil the stay. This was the best of the Lavender group for us. On the first night we had to change rooms because of noisy guests, and Ashley from the night staff was very helpful in finding us another one. The staff were fantastic. We’d be happy to come back.

We came away feeling so relaxed. The hot tub was gorgeous, and they brought us a glass of prosecco to enjoy there. Our four-poster suite was huge, with a very comfortable bed, a nice bathroom, a big bath, a separate walk-in shower, lovely original features and breathtaking views. I heard the rooms are due for redecoration soon, so it would be nice to return and see the new look. The team were amazing, friendly, informative and helpful. Everyone, from the cleaners to reception and bar staff, made a real difference. Dinner was excellent, and the £25 allowance covered enough for two courses, with extras added to the bill. The house white in the inclusive drinks package was a lovely Chardonnay, retailing at £12.50 a bottle. I’m a happy wine lover and will buy it in future. Our Bubbles Break included the four-poster suite, hot tub, evening meal, residents’ bar from 6 -11 pm and breakfast. We paid for a late checkout at 12 pm. Since we were using the hot tub at 1 pm, the hotel gave us free early check-in for 2 pm, though the room was ready even earlier when we arrived. One small room improvement would be adding a dongle to the TVs so guests can sign into their own streaming services, such as Netflix. The TVs and wifi could support it, and it seems like an easy, inexpensive upgrade. I’d definitely return. It’s a lovely local romantic break for couples.

Breakfast was great, the location was good, and the breakfast staff were lovely. But I wouldn’t stay here again. Avoid room 31. It was a tired room in the old porch of an annex, and it was very cold. They supplied two extra heaters, but only one worked. The room needed a full refurbishment: the decorative cushions on the bed were small and stained, the floor wasn’t clean, and there was no housekeeping on the second day. The old double bed sagged.

The grounds were lovely, and Fergus had a great time racing around to burn off some energy after the six-hour drive from Dorset. Staying in the annex worked well because we could park right outside our room. It was exceptionally clean and the bed was very comfortable. The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly and attentive. We also liked relaxing in the Lounge before and after dinner. We really enjoyed our one-night stay with our dog. We travel around the UK regularly for work, and dog-friendly hotels are a priority for us, so The Higher Trappe will be a favourite. My one suggestion for hotels with dog rooms is to provide a mini fridge for wet food. Thanks to the team for such a relaxing visit.
