For the area, the price is about half what most other hotels charge, and I’d definitely stay here again. Check-in was quick and easy, and the desk staff were kind and happy to answer questions. They also asked if it was my first visit. The building’s old, so it creaks and has uneven stairs, but that’s part of its character. Burton doesn’t have much going on, so I wasn’t expecting the Ritz. My room was larger and nicer than I expected, with a little hallway and a private bathroom, all part of the same room. It was clean and well presented. Some furniture was dated, but the room had character and I slept well. There was a large TV, plus a fridge, microwave, plate, kettle, and tea, coffee and milk. The main drawback was how dark the room stayed even with the lights on. The bathroom was a good size, though the cracked tiles and poor repairs were an eyesore. You can get into the building 24 hours a day.

Good for the price, and the first night was fine. On the second, music, singing and people going up and down the corridors kept waking me through the night. I finally got up and left at 5:30. There was nobody at reception to complain to. I won’t be back.

For the price, this place is a gem. I’ve stayed in hotels all over the UK for 25 years, and this felt like the bathroom at home, cracks and all. It was clean and tidy, even if there were a few cracks here and there. The room had a B&B feel, with a fridge and microwave, which more than made up for there being no restaurant on site. Check-in was quick, friendly and courteous. I don’t know why there are so many bad reviews.

The kind housekeeping staff offered fresh towels in the morning, which was the only good part. The rest was awful. The Wi-Fi didn’t work, the shower barely trickled, and the wonky stairs felt unsafe, especially while pregnant. There were druggies camped in the car park. The room was unbearably hot, with no air conditioning or fans. I left the windows open, but it made no difference, and I couldn’t sleep because it felt like a sauna. The bathroom looked like something out of a Saw movie, yellow tinged, with some lights not working and a hair dryer from the 70s. The restaurant was closed, which added to the disappointment. Given the state of the building, I wouldn’t have eaten there anyway.

I’m so frustrated. My room was dirty, staff were rude, and somebody else’s belongings had been left there. When I called for help with lost property, my laptop, they got defensive. One person said they’d check CCTV, then someone else said that was a lie. They said they’d check with staff and never got back to me. When I called again, they said the laptop wasn’t there and asked, “What do you want me to do about it?” The whole thing felt strange, and they didn’t care at all. Don’t waste your money.
