The location and scenery are lovely, but that’s about the only positive for us. We drove home after just seeing the room, very disappointed, and do not recommend this place. We’d driven over an hour for a night away, bought for us as a wedding gift through Groupon. People were sleeping in the car park, which didn’t seem to be harming anyone but felt odd for a hotel. We were shown to our room after the first comment was, “oh you have the voucher”. It felt like a room used specifically for Groupon, and it looked nothing like the photo in the Groupon advert. It was freezing, with mould around the window and dirty cushions marked with red/brown stains. We were given a fan heater in case it got too cold. Only one spotlight in the bathroom worked, and the kettle still had water from the last guest. The guest book also looked like it had all been written in the same handwriting, which made us question the place. The food was described as pub meal style, but all you could smell was curry, and it turned out to be a curry house.

We’d read the reviews and didn’t expect much, but the room worked fine for our needs. The family room was off the car park, with a large, comfy bed, and it was clean and warm. Some areas were tired and short on attention to detail, though it didn’t affect our stay. The curries in the restaurant were really nice, and it’s a lovely village.

We ate here while staying in Hartington and really enjoyed the meal. The staff were friendly and gave great service. We started with Poppadoms, then had Lamb Tikka Massala and Chicken Bhuna with Pilau rice and a Peshwari Naan. Everything was cooked beautifully. It’s a new restaurant that deserves support, so give it a try, you won't be disappointed. 🥘

We popped in for Sunday dinner, as we’d done before, but found they now serve only Indian food. That wasn’t what we wanted for Sunday dinner. The spice smell was also very strong around the dining area and left me quite breathless. If you’re after curry it might be OK, but it’s not for us, sorry.

The restaurant on site was great, and I’d definitely recommend the Lamb Madras. Staff were polite, professional and really accommodating, and made us feel right at home. Great value for money too. Thanks to everyone for a great weekend, from Matt and Kat.
