Travelodge Camberley Central

Back in 2024, I was refused a room late at night even though I had valid ID and a valid credit card. They turned me away and even called the police. I later saw a Guardian article describing several other cases of women being turned away by Travelodge late at night while in a very vulnerable position, so mine doesn't seem isolated. Thinking about it still shakes me. It damaged my belief in humanity, and discrimination was certainly at play.

It's handy for a quick stay or just somewhere to rest after a long day out. The room has the basics, though it isn't always the cleanest, especially the bathroom. The location is okay, but getting around from there isn't the easiest.

The hotel is extremely close to town, the theatre, the train station and buses, which is a big plus. That's why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. But the heat in the room made it a poor stay, and I'd book somewhere else next time I'm in the area. I've messaged the company and am waiting for a response. It was November, and the room felt like a furnace. With no air conditioning and a window that only opened about an inch, I barely slept. After returning from the theatre, I sat there uncomfortably until after midnight, unable to settle. Eventually I pushed the double bed over to the wall by the open window, which brought a tiny bit more air. I was restless all night and got maybe 4 hours of sleep, on and off. A fan wouldn't make much difference when the room is that hot and stuffy. I dread to think what it would be like in July or August, you might pass out. I only had one night booked, luckily. A hotel is meant to give you a night's sleep. If it can't do that, it's failed. The location has plenty going for it, but the heat was a real problem.

The place was spotless and comfortable, with a lovely atmosphere, and we had a truly enjoyable stay. Best experience so far with travelodge, 10 out of 10. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Bandana Gurung, the manager, was fantastic, always cheerful, helpful and full of positive energy. The breakfast chef, whose name I didn't get, was brilliant too. Whenever something was running low, he checked if we wanted more and cooked it fresh for us.
