The Gonville Hotel

The location made exploring Cambridge easy, with restaurants nearby and the main sights a short walk away. Parking was a little expensive, but felt worth it for the convenience and security, and the staff let us leave the car for a few extra hours after checkout. The elevator was out, but the team upgraded our room and carried all our luggage from the car right to it. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and they even gave our one-year-old daughter a cute teddy bear. Our room at the Gonville Hotel, Cambridge was clean, modern and comfortable. We'll definitely stay again next time we're here.

The complimentary Bentley tour was the highlight of our stay. Mike was a friendly, knowledgeable chauffeur, and Ruben looked after us brilliantly. The hotel was welcoming and clean, the staff were very friendly, and the rooms felt cosy and comfortable. Breakfast had plenty of options, though hot dishes took too long, sometimes went to the wrong table and were overcooked. The coffee machine was painfully slow too. The tour was amazing, but the hotel's parking at £28 a night felt far too expensive. Given the room cost, I don't think it should have been charged. We still had a lovely time and I've already recommended the Gonville to others.

The location is great, but the food and service need work. I was at a work Christmas do, and although the food tasted good, portions were tiny and came without vegetables. At breakfast the bacon was like old leather, the beans were cold, and the amount was small for the price. A second coffee machine would help, as there was a constant queue. We had a bar tab and it seemed other people's drinks were being added to it. The room was nice but cramped, with barely a foot between the bed and the TV on the wall. The sink was so small that water went everywhere when I washed. Why were the kettle and coffee supplies in the wardrobe? Fine dining isn't much use if you leave hungry.

Zane's Bentley tour of Cambridge was excellent, and I'd highly recommend booking one. The hotel is really nice, close to town and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. Staff were polite and friendly, and breakfast was good.
