The one good thing about our stay was that the room was clean. My family and I are easy-going, polite people who rarely complain, but this wasn’t acceptable and we definitely wouldn’t recommend the hotel or stay again. We arrived at the Holiday Inn at about 1.30pm yesterday, knowing check-in was at 2pm, and asked about lunch. They said a food delivery was delayed but offered pizza, which was fine. We were supposedly checked in. After about an hour in our room, another family used their key card to walk in. Luckily we were all dressed, and they were very apologetic. It turned out our check-in hadn’t actually been completed, so the system showed the room as vacant. Different reception staff apologized when I went back and offered a free drink with dinner. Then we ordered food. After 10 minutes, we were told there was no salad, despite the delivery having arrived. We waited 50 minutes, watched people who ordered after us get their meals first, and had to ask what was happening. The response was, “oh, haven’t you had your food yet”. Another 10 minutes passed before our food came out cold. My grandson’s beans looked as if they’d been sitting in a saucepan for about an hour. They offered free drinks or desserts again, but I asked for refunds on two meals and got them. The young woman helping us was lovely, and I felt sorry for her because other guests were also complaining. She and the woman taking orders seemed to be doing everything while the manager was the stand-in “chef”. Having just three staff on a bank holiday weekend at a fully booked hotel just isn’t on.
For two weeks of parking and an overnight B&B, it was well worth the price and particularly convenient for Cardiff airport. We parked in the long-stay area, took our keys with us and could drive straight off when we returned. A shuttle took us to the airport, and was waiting across the road from departures for our return. Staff were friendly and efficient. The rooms were clean and spacious, the bed comfortable, and the shower great. The bar had good service and reasonable prices, and breakfast was plentiful and more than adequate. The only drawback was the limited evening restaurant menu. We took the car to eat elsewhere, and there are a few places nearby.
The room, breakfast and one week of bay parking came to £90, which was very good value. The staff were welcoming, professional and proactive. I arrived to rest before flying the following day, and found the room fresh, clean and nicely presented. It had clean towels and bedding, a choice of soft or firm pillow, plus a kettle, cups, tea bags and coffee. The lounge was tidy, with staff regularly cleaning tables, straightening seats and sorting menus. Bar prices did feel a little harsh on the pocket. I’ll be booking the same again very soon. Great work.
The hotel is well located for the airport, and there are two pubs close by, the fontegary inn and the highway man. Both are excellent for food. We’ve stayed here many times before flying. The staff have always been friendly and very helpful. Rooms are basic but have everything you need and are consistently very clean. The menu doesn’t offer much variety, but we’ve always had a good meal. Breakfast is basic too, though it’s enough for my husband and me.
We’ve stayed here many times and usually enjoy it. The staff were friendly and efficient, but several small problems added up this time. The room wasn’t entirely clean, and there weren’t enough towels. The air conditioning was constantly noisy even when switched off; we were told it was trapped gas and nothing could be done. We’d ordered extra pillows before arriving, but they weren’t in the room. I had to ask three more times, and they took 3 hours to arrive. I don’t know why they weren’t brought with the missing towels. The sofa bed was broken, with its slats taped together using masking tape. Even though we arrived midweek, several meals on the already limited menu weren’t available.
