The free parking was a real bonus, especially after our stay at the Bicester Premier Inn, where parking cost £4:50 and space was an issue. Here there was plenty of room. We enjoyed ourselves and would return. It’s about 20 minutes along the carriageway to Gretna village, handy if you’re going shopping, and we also had dinner at Mini Mix in Carlisle, which I’d highly recommend. We had a Plus room again and liked its position and amenities, though the walk from reception is short, only 50 metres, to the adjoining restaurant for breakfast. Check-in was smooth, apart from my old debit card failing as it was being replaced. I paid quickly with the new one. The fridge had lights but no compressor noise and didn’t work, a minor annoyance. The bed was comfortable, I slept extremely well, and the shower was wonderfully hot. Breakfast was delicious, with freshly cooked ingredients constantly replenished from the kitchen. There were different breads and lots of toast toppings. I discovered apricot jam at another Premier Inn on this holiday and have now bought a jar for home. The strawberry and raspberry jams were lovely too, as were Nutella and honey. Marmite was interesting but enjoyable. I don’t like orange marmalade, so left that one alone. Thanks to Premier Inn for expanding my toast topping enjoyment!

We’ll definitely come back. It was a great stop on the way from Scotland to the south coast, with a family feel, friendly and helpful staff, and Karen was especially helpful. The Beefeater next door was very welcoming too, even though we arrived at 9pm, and they served us with a smile. There’s a cheap Shell petrol station next door. The hotel is just off the motorway, but you can’t hear the traffic, and the rooms were clean and comfortable.

I stay in Premier Inns for work every week, and this one wasn’t great. The rooms need a serious refurbishment, though that’s not the staff’s fault. There was mould in the bathroom, a ceiling light that didn’t work, and a toilet cistern that only worked intermittently. I know Whitbread is refurbishing its hotels, but this one really needs to be put on the high-priority list.

Another good stay at junction 42. The rooms are consistently clean and quiet, and the staff are friendly. It’s nice to see familiar faces checking you in, as they don’t seem to have much staff turnover. Thanks again. :-)

I’ve tried all the Premier Inns in Carlisle, and this is now my usual pick for overnight stays. The Premier Plus rooms are my preference, even though they’re a bit of a walk from reception. The blackout curtains are great, and my room was clean and quiet despite the motorway nearby. The woman on reception when we arrived early Saturday evening was welcoming and helpful. Later that night, the young man there barely acknowledged us, and on Sunday morning none of the three women at reception greeted us. When we came back a few days later, I was told that checking in online hadn’t helped, though it had the previous time. I was also charged for two full breakfasts instead of the two continental ones we’d asked for. I reported it on our way out, and I think the helpful woman from our arrival said she’d arrange a refund. The hotel and restaurant could both use a refurb, though I’ve stayed in worse. Apart from that one helpful person, the reception staff’s attitude really affected my view of the service.
