The food here was incredible, and the service made our evening so lovely. There were five of us, and nothing was too much trouble, especially with our granddaughter, who loves prawns. We were spending the weekend in Brampton and were lucky to find this place. After a three-hour drive to our cottage, we'd still have said the food alone was worth the trip. If you're nearby, do yourself a favour and book. You won't be disappointed. Thanks to everyone!

Alison was an excellent landlady, and the staff were friendly and courteous, happy to help with anything. The drinks were very reasonably priced. We had a great steak pie and chips on Saturday night, then one of the best breakfasts we've had the next morning.

We were staying at the charming Blackhill Cottage in Hallbankgate and had spotted this pub in the visitors book. We went on Thursday evening. We were told it's best to book ahead for Friday or Saturday. The friendly, welcoming barman looked after us so well. I chose the 'Captains Catch' from the specials, and my other half had the local Cumberland Sausage. The portions were huge, and the homemade chips took me back to the ones my mum cooked in her chip pan. The food was outstanding and tasted made with love. We'd highly recommend it for both the meal and the warm welcome. Thanks to the cheerful barman and chef. We won't forget the visit, and we've given the pub a big thumbs up in the Blackhill visitor book.

Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had fish and chips, possibly the best I've ever had, while my husband chose lasagna with chips and garlic bread. The rest of our family had gammon and catch of the day. The staff couldn't have been nicer, and the whole meal was lovely. We'll be back.
