The Roadhouse Hotel

For the price, you get a private room and bathroom, a public bar on site, and local services close by. It costs less than half what traditional budget hotels do. This isn’t a high-end hotel and doesn’t pretend to be. If you’re after glamour, look elsewhere. If you’re fine with clean, comfortable, no-frills surroundings and watching your budget, it’s a good fit. I’ll come back when I need a place to sleep.

The room was small but clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The 10% discount at the bar is a nice deal, though I couldn’t get the shower to work. It’s in a run-down area, but there’s a retail park nearby and a Domino’s and kebab shop across the road.

We had a lovely weekend away, and the price was really good value. There was only one staff member we spoke to during our stay. I’m not sure if he was the owner, but he was helpful and lovely the whole time. We’d definitely come back.

The website says this isn’t a five-star hotel, and that’s fine for the price, but the basics weren’t there. The whole top floor smelled of cigarettes, and the heat was never on during two incredibly cold nights. Hot water stopped working the second night and the following morning, so I had to shower in freezing water and get out into a freezing room. When I mentioned it at checkout, the staff member had an attitude and said, “You should have asked for a heater.” I never saw a single staff member between check-in and checkout. Reception was empty, and nobody answered when I called. Then the same woman banged on my door about twenty minutes before checkout to get me to leave, while I was fresh out of the shower and getting ready to go. I thought things seemed decent enough when I arrived, but the two nights were awful. If you can stay somewhere else, you should.
