Ivy Bush Royal Hotel by Compass Hospitality

Robert, on the morning shift, was great when I had to get up early for my daughter's appointment at Glangwli hospital. He made me a few coffees and was helpful and polite. The check-in the night before was less helpful: reception gave us the room number and breakfast times but didn't say where to order an evening meal, so we had to find out ourselves. After dinner our key stopped working, and when it was reprogrammed we were told not to keep it near our phones. That would have been useful to know earlier. Other hotel receptionists I've met have been much happier to explain everything guests need to know.

The Garden Room was amazing, with a warm feel and a beautiful bathroom, and the staff were really friendly. We had a lovely weekend at the lvy Bush. Sunday lunch was hot and very tasty, and the service was great. We'll definitely stay again.

Lovely hotel, but I was very disappointed with the facilities. Our group of ten friends, none of us young, booked five rooms together. Eight of us were put on one floor and two on another, even though a man checking in while we were there got a room on our floor. My room was freezing, and when I went to use the phone I found its cord had been cut. Reception said the heating didn't come on until 5 p.m., so it was cold when we returned earlier. They gave us a heater, and another cold room got one too. Toilets in two rooms weren't working properly. It was my first stay, and I'm not sure I'd come back.

We couldn't use the bar or restaurant with our well-behaved dog unless we sat outside, which didn't feel very dog friendly. We've stayed in some lovely hotels that let dogs into part of the bar or restaurant, so we ended up spending our money on dinner and cocktails elsewhere. During our two nights on a Welsh adventure, though, the Ivy Bush was clean and comfortable, if a little quaint. Breakfast had a wonderful selection, and the staff were friendly and accommodating throughout.
