We had large salads, and they really were large, with tasty, good-quality ingredients. The staff were super friendly, and the decor inside is lovely. We brought our dog along. There’s a dessert selection by the entrance; we didn’t try anything, but the cakes looked great. Prices seemed reasonable, though they add a 10% tip to the bill, apparently because everything is cashless now. The canal runs more or less alongside the place, so you can take a walk there before eating. It’s opposite Greenland's Farm, not far off the M6, with a big car park. We booked on the website but, on a midweek visit around 3pm, there were hardly any other people there. It’s a big place with a bar and large outdoor area, so I imagine it gets busier on summer weekends and holidays. We’d definitely come back.

The food was lovely, especially the fish and chips and black pudding starter, but the service spoilt what should have been a great birthday meal. This was our second visit, and service was a problem both times. A few weeks earlier, we had to ask for the dessert menu while the waitresses were standing around on their phones. This time, some of our party arrived early for coffee, and the cups stayed on the table until we’d had a second round of drinks and asked for them to be cleared. Nobody checked how we wanted the steak cooked, and one of our six meals arrived when everyone else had nearly finished. They took that meal off the bill, which was appreciated, but one waitress responded unprofessionally when we followed it up. The other two women we spoke to were apologetic. Dessert was another letdown. The treacle tart came with split custard. The brownie, described as warm, was cold. When we mentioned it, the waiter offered another treacle tart, though the problem was the custard, and the brownie seemed to be reheated with the same ice cream put back on a plate where it was nearly melted. We’d given up by then. Really disappointing.

The team were friendly and kept smiling and getting on with things, even though more guests than expected turned up on a Tuesday night. Big thanks to them!

We watched football and rugby in the bar, and the atmosphere was great. It’s a friendly bar and restaurant, with a good menu and some delicious cakes. I’d recommend the light bites.
