Our walking group had a fab pub lunch here. The staff were friendly, and the lunches were great value, with sandwiches, homemade-style chips, salad and coleslaw for under £10. The jacket potatoes were tasty too and around the same price. This is definitely our pub of choice in Castle Cary now!

We visited last night while I was seeing my mum over twixmas. I had fish and chips. The chips were pale and soggy, and could have been cooked longer to get some colour and crispness. The fish had an odd taint to it. I’m not sure what it was, and I don’t think it was cod, which I prefer. It seemed to be a flat fish, maybe plaice. I should really have asked. For the price, I wasn’t terribly impressed, and we skipped pudding because it seemed expensive. Not sure I’d go again.

Everyone seemed to enjoy dinner, judging by how clean our plates were. The food was tasty and the portions were big. The room was a little chilly, though, and some music would have been nice.

I met up with an old work friend at the George. The staff were so friendly, and I enjoyed a steak and stilton sandwich with salad and chips. Great value, and I hope to return to this lovely pub restaurant soon.

The rooms and location are excellent, and the food is high quality. It’s a brilliant old Inn, with friendly, great staff. Breakfast has plenty of choice and is cooked fresh to order.
