The food alone would bring me back. We had three courses each, and every dish was beautifully presented, delicious, and generous enough to leave us full. It was excellent value, but the service made the evening frustrating. We were seated and got the drinks menus quickly, even though it was busy and there were plenty of staff around. Still, it took 10 minutes to order drinks and another 30 minutes to place our food order. Tables that arrived later ordered before us, with no obvious reason for the delay. Of our four drinks, two came promptly, the third 15 minutes later, and the last after 30 minutes. After dessert I wanted to pay and head off because my husband had an early start. We waited more than half an hour, and with the restaurant nearly empty and only two staff in sight, I eventually went to the bar and paid directly. We came for a Valentine's meal. I'd like to return for the food, but I'm not sure I'd put up with that service again.

The evening was very good, and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere made for a nice meal with my sister. I never give five stars, though. We had the two steaks and a bottle of wine deal, which was great value. Both steaks were cooked just as requested and tasted very nice. Mine had a bit I couldn't eat, but that's rump for you. The meal felt a little small, so an included side, maybe onion rings, would have helped. That's me being picky.

The electric car chargers don't work, they're just for decoration. Aside from that, we had a lovely weekend break. The hotel is clean, the location is beautiful, and staff throughout were kind, friendly, and professional. The food was amazing, and the cosy bar and dining area had a few local ciders to choose from. Breakfast on the bank holiday was the one difficult part. We were a group of 12, and some orders took over an hour. The kitchen and restaurant seemed short-staffed, service got a bit lost, and I think they ran out of eggs, sausages, and a few other things.

The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the food is tasty, good value, and has plenty of choice. We've stayed here several times as a family, and we recently held our late Mum's Celebration of Life here. During such a sad time, the staff were understanding, helpful, and so welcoming. Nothing felt like too much trouble. It has a quiet, relaxed, home-from-home feel. We'd definitely stay again.

Breakfast was cooked just right, and all the food looked lovely. The staff were lovely too. Great spot, with lots of grassy fields for dog walks and only five minutes from Chard center. Fabulous stay, and I look forward to going back!
