The Kensington suite, I think that’s what it was called, was really well equipped and had lovely views across the park. Breakfast was delicious, with loads to choose from, and the chef and the rest of the team worked hard to make our stay special. Everyone was friendly. Amanda welcomed us at reception with her familiar smile and even remembered the son we’d come to visit. The hotel is lovely and warm with the heaters they’ve put in while fixing the heating, so don’t let that issue put you off. We’ve had excellent service here again.

Room 11’s wet room made a real difference for my wife after her surgery. It had grab rails and a shower seat, and the staff gave us privacy and understanding throughout our 10-night stay. Nothing was too much trouble, especially for Leanne, who kept checking that we were all right. We’d first visited in November 2025 to look around, as my wife was due to have major surgery in January 2026. Since we live in Leeds, staying near the hospital meant less travelling and helped with her early recovery. Michelle showed us different rooms on that first visit and made us feel at ease from the moment we arrived. The room was lovely and our stay was relaxing. We’d definitely come back and recommend the hotel. Thanks to Leanne, Michelle and everyone there for making that first part of my wife’s recovery such a pleasant experience.

The dinner at my event was very good, and the wine and service were nice too. Breakfast was freshly cooked, and most of the staff were charming and helpful. The building has atmosphere, with beautiful restoration, and the lobby, bar and restaurant are great spaces with quirky details. My room was comfortable enough, though a bit tired: one chair leg was broken, the Nespresso machine was filthy, and the kettle had been left half full of water in a cupboard. The pillows were lumpy, and there was no iron. The bathroom only had shower gel and hand soap, with no lotion, shampoo or tissues. For a boutique hotel, it felt short on amenities, more basic than a Holiday Inn Express. There was a strong drain smell in the ground floor corridor and in the rooms. The plug-in air fresheners around the place made me think they know about it. Heating and air conditioning were out in a lot of rooms too. Reception had a small sign saying it was a recent issue they were fixing, but other reviews suggest it’s been broken since last year. Why has it taken so long? The electric panel heater in my room was enough, though it didn’t feel very boutique. With more care, this place could be great, but at the price, I found it disappointing.

The rooms are comfortable, and ours had a lovely shower and bath. We always enjoy the breakfasts, and the food at the Galloping Major is well cooked with a good range to choose from, though I think the prices may have gone up a little too much recently. The staff are friendly and the service is great. We like coming here for a few days when we visit relatives around Manchester, and we’ll be back when we find another excuse for a short break.

The food was a real highlight: room service brought a freshly made Pepperoni pizza, not a frozen one, along with a burger, nicely cooked sirloin and desserts, all included in the Half board package. Breakfast was good too, and you can tell they use quality ingredients. Peter gave us a warm welcome and was so helpful. We stayed last night with my wife and our six-year-old. The room was lovely, and although there was an office Christmas party downstairs, we weren’t disturbed. It’s a characterful old building with quirky but beautiful decor. We had a lovely stay, would happily recommend it and book again. Thank you.
