The Oakland Hotel

The room was spacious, clean and well equipped, and the hotel was in a lovely location for what we needed. The nightlife quietened down early enough that we should have had a good night's sleep, at least in theory. During the heatwave, though, it was impossible to sleep in the heat. The little desk fan did what it could, but air conditioning would have been perfect. Breakfast was delayed because of an issue outside the hotel's control, and a replacement was on its way. We couldn't wait because of our commitments, but the staff were very friendly and attentive. I'd stay again, hopefully when it's colder.

We booked at the last minute after our original holiday was cancelled, then had to rebook and wanted somewhere not too far from the airport. Until checkout, we had nothing bad to say about the hotel or service. Afterwards, I got a call accusing us of taking a room throw and asking us to return it. I was so shocked I had to hand the phone to my husband. We were at the airport with our two children, had no intention of stealing anything, and would never do that. Being accused made us feel awful. I wouldn't recommend staying here after that.

We were just having a laugh with a few extra straws in our drinks, but they took our drinks from us and forcibly removed us from the building. We'd already spent a lot of money there, and it was embarrassing. If you're under 50, don't bother, apparently you're not allowed to enjoy yourselves.

We stayed on Saturday 12th July. The location was great, the staff were really friendly, and our room was spotless with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was lovely and served by a waitress. Great value for money, and we'll definitely book again.
