Citrus Hotel Cheltenham by Compass Hospitality

The staff were welcoming and professional throughout, and the room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. We slept well on a quiet Thursday, and the heating kept the room comfortable overnight in November. It’s a pleasant ten-minute walk to the city centre, which worked perfectly for our performance at the city hall. The area was well lit, and we felt safe walking back at night. I’d booked the wrong date, but the hotel was understanding and managed to change it. I’d also booked a suite, but only a twin room was available, which wasn’t a complaint since the date mix-up was my fault. The staff were also completely relaxed about my wife heading out to the smoking area in her slippers. It’s just off the entrance and well lit, so a person can stand there safely on their own. There’s a lift and stairs from the car park, plus a disabled lift and a few steps from street level to the main entrance. The car park is underneath the hotel, with limited, tight spaces, so you might need to park elsewhere. We’d happily use this hotel again if we return to Cheltenham.

We had a lovely weekend, with great help from Matt at reception. The hotel is quiet but right in the centre of Cheltenham, and our room was lovely, especially the fabulous mattress. The bathroom was nice too, though there was a small issue with the water temperature. Big towels and free shower gel were appreciated. We’d definitely stay again. It would be great if parking and breakfast could be included in the price or an offer. Many thanks! 👏

Being so close to the centre, just behind a main shopping street, was convenient, but the club noise at night was a problem. The room was dirty and dusty, even after the friendly staff moved us to another one. Furniture and equipment hadn’t been cleaned properly, and the blanket in the first room was dirty and mouldy. The shower head didn’t work well, the bath switch was broken and unrepaired, and the hairdryer barely worked. It was miserable trying to rest with wet hair after a shower. I wouldn’t return. The hotel needs to think about renovating.

It’s basic rather than fancy, but the value is great for the price. The room was large enough and clean, and the bed was clean too. The bathroom had a few odd touches, like a sliding toilet seat, but at this price I can’t complain. I’d stay again.
