The Bowes Incline

The meal was worth the wait, with fresh, piping hot food, delicious flavours and generous portions. Our drinks arrived quickly and the staff were friendly and worked really hard. We’d booked for 1.30 and were taken to our table straight away, but it was an hour from sitting down to getting our food. We were told it would take half an hour after ordering, and that estimate was spot on. I’d still come back.

We came for a meal with friends, not an overnight stay. The food and service were exceptional, and we’ll be back, even though it’s about a twenty-minute drive for us. The one snag was that nobody seemed to remember we were there, so we waited ages for someone to take our order. The staff were very apologetic.

We only ate at the restaurant and didn’t use the hotel. The Apple and Parsnip Soup with sourdough was delicious, and both our mains were scrumptious: Teriyaki Chicken Bowl and Mince and Leek Dumpling and veg. The portions were a good size. Staff were friendly, helpful and professional.

Breakfast was superb and such good value that I couldn’t even finish half my plate. We had a lovely short stopover with my two boys. The room was clean, and we all slept really well. Check-in was easy and pleasant, with lovely staff, and the bar team were wonderful too. It’s only a ten-minute drive to the metrocentre for an evening at the cinema. Thanks for looking after us.
