Base Serviced Apartments - City Road

Worst place I've ever stayed. I booked an apartment for a week and got a small, tiny room instead. When I asked the property manager, they said no apartment was available because everything was booked, and that I could stay in an upgraded one only on the last night. Then on the last day they scammed me again.

The room was quiet, clean enough, and had a big, comfortable bed. It's not huge, but there's enough room to move around, and having the shower and toilet separate is rare and useful. Thumbs up! The entrance is right beside the main road. I was given clear instructions for the simple key box, picked up the key and checked in quickly, with no hassle. There were no staff around when I arrived at about 10pm, but check-in went smoothly. I'd come back at this price.

For what we paid, I was happy with the choice. The room was tiny, as I knew before booking, and we only needed it to sleep. The apartment was a short walk from the city centre and main street, as well as a lovely large park and the city walls. I couldn't have got anything better for that price. I have two suggestions. I'm 155cm tall, and without my partner I couldn't have reached the fan switches above the toilet door, just under the ceiling. Why put them there? There's also nowhere in the toilet to put toothpaste, cream, face wash or anything else. A little shelf would cost only a few pounds and be very useful. The price was fair for what we got. I was given the entry instructions, WiFi password and all the important information, and check-in and check-out were clear.

With our 12 month old baby, we ended up looking for somewhere to stay late in the evening. The apartment was dirty, with tobacco and sticky substances on the floor, seats and table, and one of the kitchen cabinet doors was missing. The radiator in the lounge/kitchen was stuck on full, making it too hot for my baby to sleep. We checked in at 3pm and called at 3.30pm to say the room was unusable. After several calls back and forth, we were told maintenance couldn't come because they finished at 6pm. Those calls took me away from the surprise birthday BBQ planned for me. By the time I checked all our luggage out of the apartment and got to the party, it was over. It was a messy experience, and I won't put my family through that again.
