The grounds and setting are lovely, and the wedding itself was amazing, but I left the hotel really disappointed. The room cost a lot for what it was and didn’t feel like good value. Breakfast was slow and seemed disorganised, with waits that felt unreasonable at those prices. There was very little control over the venue during the event. Pizzas ordered for wedding guests were taken by people who weren’t part of the wedding. More seriously, cards were stolen from the reception. The venue advertises 24-hour security, but we heard doors had been left unlocked and members of the public were able to wander around what should have been a private event. That was really concerning. What made it worse was the response afterwards. There seemed to be very little accountability or acknowledgement of the mistakes. It’s a shame, because the venue itself is stunning and could be a perfect wedding location, but with the security concerns, high room prices, and the overall experience, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The wedding was amazing, but the hotel experience left us disappointed on several fronts. We were in family room 115, which was dated and very warm. The only fan was noisy and broken, the wallpaper had rips, and the carpet had dirty stains. The travel cot provided looked dirty and in need of replacement, so our baby slept in our bed instead, which wasn’t ideal after paying extra for the cot. The room cost £210, which felt expensive for what we got, especially from a prestigious hotel so well known locally. My mum in room 108 also found the cleanliness lacking, with a stained carpet. There was also an issue with the room where people were getting ready. We were told to clear our things out by 3pm, though nobody else was using the room that day. Guests couldn’t check into their rooms until 3pm, and with the wedding at 1pm, everyone was busy with photos, food, and drinks. Staff ended up moving our belongings and leaving them carelessly on the windowsill outside. An early check-in for wedding guests, even by an hour, would have helped, as the wedding party had asked several times for somewhere to move their things. The biggest problem was security. Although the venue had exclusivity that afternoon, members of the public got into the wedding, used the dance floor inappropriately, and took food from the pizza vans that the grooms had paid for. The venue’s terms and conditions say it provides 24-hour security, but the wedding room was left open all night and cards containing a large amount of money were stolen. The hotel’s response has been deeply disappointing, with no accountability despite the issue being escalated to senior management and the venue breaching its own terms. I also can’t rule out staff involvement. They weren’t honest about the CCTV the venue has, or possibly doesn’t have. I’m due to use another hotel under the same management company, James Places, for my vow renewal next year. After this experience, I’m now considering changing venues because I don’t trust the company to manage my event safely.

I photographed a wedding at Mitton Hall this past weekend, and the staff really stood out. Everyone was friendly, professional, and clearly invested in giving the couple a great day. They were organised, attentive to detail, and a pleasure to work alongside. As a wedding photographer who’s worked at many venues, I was impressed by the beautiful grounds, stylish interiors, and all the backdrops for photos. The ceremony and reception spaces were thoughtfully designed and made for a lovely atmosphere. The food was high quality and beautifully presented, and guests talked about it throughout the day. Mitton Hall is one of the most impressive venues I’ve worked at. If you’re looking for a wedding venue in Lancashire with lovely surroundings, good service, and a great experience, it deserves a place on your shortlist. I’d happily photograph there again anytime.

The food was fantastic, service was great, and I appreciated having tea, coffee, biscuits, and water in the room. This is a beautiful Tudor mansion turned into a hotel, with nicely decorated rooms and three local ales on tap. A few things could be better. My room had no curtains, just a Venetian blind, so I was glad I travel with a sleeping mask. There were only two small bedroom windows that opened, and one had a broken handle and wouldn’t close. The shower had no shelf for toiletries, and the bathroom lighting made shaving difficult. The pillows were very soft, which doesn’t suit side sleepers who prefer firm ones. Breakfast wasn’t cooked to order. There was no buffet, but I’m fairly sure the hot food had been made ahead and kept warm.

The wedding day itself was lovely, but the hotel issues took away from the experience. There were times when members of the public could get into the reception area before staff stepped in. We’d also been assured there would be 24-hour security, yet the area was unattended overnight and wedding cards were stolen. That was extremely upsetting for the newlyweds and guests, and should never have happened. Guests couldn’t check in before 3pm, and there was nowhere else available to get ready. The rooms were very warm, with no air conditioning, and staff offered little practical help.
