Britannia Coventry

The staff at dinner were fabulous. Pascal and praninthi were really friendly, and Kyle went above and beyond with a cake and candles to wish our friend a happy Birthday. The food was nice, especially the Turkey. Our room was okay and had everything we needed, and the hotel is well placed for visiting the centre. Thank you.

We brought outside food up to the room, which was handy, and the room was clean with friendly staff. But I wouldn't want to stay more than one night. We were next to the lifts and heard them going up and down all night. The cold tap in the bathroom also wasn't working during our stay. We were there for one night while attending an event.

I've stayed here many times since moving away from Coventry because it's handy for meetings and catch-ups, and I've had some lovely times on the balconies. But it's a bit of a lottery. One time I booked a cheaper room beside the lifts and heard banging all night. On another visit I paid more and had a decent stay, though the room layout was odd. It was spacious and clean, just not the best. Most recently I tried a cheaper room again, hoping for one of the better ones, and asked to be away from the lifts. They took that literally: I was miles away, which was just inconvenient. Check-in was quick, as I had lots to do, but when I got back to room 310, it smelled damp within minutes. It was disgusting, totally unacceptable and unhealthy. That room needs a good clean and the windows opened before anyone stays there. I've got a stopover on Monday and don't know whether to pay their premium for a clean room or go elsewhere. Advice welcome.

A timeless establishment. Everything still works, and the staff are very diligent. The view from the room is awesome. A couple of young people at reception are still learning, but the night security is always on top of things and keeps a close watch.
