It's a really good location for the airport, though there was lots of aircraft noise. The mattress dipped in the middle and was uncomfortable. The shower was small and didn't work very well.

The staff were friendly, at least. The building is 500 years old, and while the bed was okay, the sheets felt like sandpaper. The bathroom was tiny, as was the shower, which you have to step up a foot to get into. I could only get cold water. There's no bedroom window or ventilation, and the bathroom has just one rickety window for air, so the bathroom door has to stay open. If it's hot, you'll suffer. Avoid this place if you want comfort.

The owner made us feel welcome from the start, offering helpful advice and even lending us a charger when we found we had brought the wrong one. She was always ready to help and did it with a smile. The rooms were clean and really comfortable, and the grounds were lovely to wander around. The whole place has a cosy, rustic feel, with old and new details mixed together in a beautiful, elegant way. We had a wonderful stay and I can see why people would fall for it.

I was only there briefly for a work trip after collecting a client from Gatwick. I needed somewhere quiet with a decent bed and shower, and the late arrival setup made things easy. I was in the “Bogart” room, clearly designed around the actor. At first I thought of the Harry Potter spectre 😁, but the room was clever and full of thoughtful artistic details. The bed was comfortable too. The dark panel behind it looks like black glass, but it's actually a window, so close the curtains before bed. The ensuite is small but does the job. A plug with a USB socket would be a useful addition. Otherwise, it was a great stay.

We had to change our plans because of unforeseen circumstances 😔, so unfortunately we never stayed here. Before the trip, though, the gentleman I spoke with by phone was very accommodating about our allergy and pregnancy related requests. That kind of care is proper customer service, and it gave me a good impression even before we arrived. Based on that and the previous reviews, I wouldn't hesitate to choose Oldlands if we need somewhere to stay in Gatwick again. I hope they keep up that high standard 🤗
