Waterhall Country House

I was nervous after reading the reviews, so I contacted the hotel before booking and asked all my questions. They answered patiently, and I have no regrets about the two nights I spent there. My room was clean, the view was amazing, and the staff were very polite. It was a calm, peaceful stay. I’ll definitely come back. Thank you 🙏🥰

The hotel is wooded and rural, with free overnight parking. The hosts were great about my late check-in, and all the instructions by email were very clear and efficient. I’d suggest booking directly through their website, as they offer better value. I had to get up early, so I never met the hosts.

The best part was the very friendly, helpful young Indian lady working during my stay, and the bed was very comfortable. The room was fairly clean, though the painter must have had his eyes closed while doing the trim. There weren’t enough teaspoons for making coffee in the morning. The bathroom had no plug, despite booking.com advertising a bath. I think that may be because the coded tap doesn’t work. The shower was very weak, and the bathtub felt like it might fall through the floor. The car park opposite floods, as does the area outside the entrance, so you’ll need wellies to get from the car park into the hotel without wet feet.

I’ve stayed here several times while working in the area and have never had any issues. Management have kept in touch when I left things behind and helped me change dates and book directly when I needed to. The room is comfortable, and the Velux opens very wide, giving you a sense of the green, open surroundings. The private bathroom works fine. Parking has never been full for me, and once connected, I had no WiFi problems. It’s a unique place with good facilities in a beautiful area, lots of parking, and a reasonable price. The bathroom is smaller than I’d like, especially the sink, and the toilet is against the slanted roof, which could be awkward if you’re tall. The shower in my room was electric, so it wasn’t as quiet as an inbuilt shower. I could hear other guests being loud and chatty at 3am. Despite being under the flight path, it wasn’t too noisy. Most of these details are part of the building’s character. There isn’t much to dislike.
