Dumfries Arms Hotel

The beds were the disappointing part of both visits. I’ve stayed in two rooms of different standards, and both mattresses felt lumpy and flimsy. I’m not especially heavy, but sitting down makes the mattress go flat and I can feel every spring. Cleanliness and a good bed matter most to me in a hotel, so it’s a shame this one falls short on the bed. Please update the mattresses and it would be perfect. I’m here for work, and this was my second stay. The staff are lovely, the food is delightful, and the decor is beautiful. My first room was particularly stunning; the room on this visit was much smaller, but clean and cosy.

The deluxe room was spacious and great value, and we couldn’t fault it. We had the evening meal and breakfast, plus a bottle of bubbly, and the whole stay was lovely. The hotel entrance is lovely too. The staff were amazing, and we’d definitely recommend it and come back.

The night I stayed was very reasonably priced, and the staff made a great impression. The hotel itself felt like a classic British place, with really luxurious furnishings. I was impressed.

Breakfast was included, though it could be better. The room was decent, but it got very hot and there was no way to switch off the heating. Its window faced the main road, so I couldn’t leave it open.
