We really enjoyed our Valentine’s stay and will be back. The pub is beautiful, with warm, roomy seating, and the staff were welcoming and polite. Our room in the new building had plenty of space, a good-sized TV, clean fresh bedding and soft towels. The bathroom was clean, warm, and had a lovely hot shower, with soap and shower gel provided. The mattress was a little firm, and the room felt cold overnight and in the morning. There was also a big gap under the main door letting in a draught. We only had a drink rather than breakfast, though there was a good choice of pastries, toast, cereal and a full English. The coffee wasn’t great, it had been sitting in two pots, so maybe a coffee machine would help. The village is quiet and has no shops, so you need to be able to drive. This was our first stay, a last-minute getaway, and it was just one night.

We’d hoped to enjoy a pint outside on the first sunny day of the year, but were told the only outdoor seats were at the front. That left us looking at passing cars instead of the river. There’s a business card on the bar for “The View” showing the river and bridge, so it’s confusing. I’m not sure what the terrace is used for if patrons can’t sit there. A disappointing visit today.

After our first stay just after Xmas, we booked straight away for New Year’s Eve and day. The food was absolutely beautiful, proper top restaurant quality, and everyone on staff was friendly and welcoming. It’s a peaceful, traditional, comfortable place with a down-to-earth feel. I didn’t want to leave and will be back very soon. Thankyou linsey and all staff, and happy new year!

Three fireplaces, with at least one always burning, give the pub a lovely period feel and atmosphere. The staff were warm and accommodating, and Liam and Jodie were especially personable and looked after what we needed. Can’t wait to come back!
