Travel Plaza Hotel

Clean and tidy enough, and good value for an overnight stop. The rooms felt a little tired, especially the bathroom. Just to be clear, those photos were taken as we were leaving, not when we arrived. Fine for a night, but it isn't a spa.

I was there for a few days while work was being done on my home. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, and happy to help with whatever I needed. My room was clean, tidy and spacious, with a mini fridge, hairdryer, TV, tea and coffee, plus complimentary shower gel and shampoo. I could borrow an iron and tabletop ironing board at no extra cost, and they also lent me a dish and spoon. There's no breakfast, but Sainsbury's is less than five minutes down the road, so picking up cereal and milk was easy. There was scaffolding during my stay because solar panels were being fitted, and I noticed they were putting in an electric charging point in the car park. Thanks for a lovely stay. I'd definitely recommend the hotel.

The bed in room 221 really needs replacing. It rocked, creaked and sloped so badly that we moved the pillows to the other end, then kept rolling into the dip in the middle. I don't think I've ever tried to sleep in anything so uncomfortable. It doesn't matter how reasonable the price is, you're paying to sleep. The grounds are lovely and the hotel looks inviting. The reception lady was helpful, and there's a small shop at reception selling a few drinks and snacks. Our room was clean, though the bathroom looked a little dated. There was a hairdryer, fridge, toiletries, TV, fan for hot weather, heater for cold weather, and somewhere to sit.

The day staff could be quite rude. They told my group off for opening doors, and complained that we had three adults in a family room, even though our booking listed three adults. The room itself was simple but had what we needed for the price, with a comfortable bed and good curtains. The location was lovely, with links to nearby towns, and there's a nice restaurant attached to the hotel.
